Q: What are those red dots on my back?
A: Those “red moles” which are common on the back, chest and stomach are actually cherry angioma. They are benign tumors that result from an overgrowth of capillaries. And most commonly appear in adults older than 30 years.
These non-cancerous tumors are related to aging and tend to increase in number as a person becomes older. They occur in up to 50 percent of adults. They are also known as senile angiomas.
They are harmless and do not need treatment. Removal treatment are usually done for cosmetic reason only. Excision, electrocautery, cryosurgery and pulsed dye laser removal are the treatment options.
