Q: What is UV radiation and its effect on our skin?
A: There are 3️⃣ categories of ultraviolet radiation:
1. : They cause skin damage that leads to tanning as well as skin aging and wrinkles. The shortest wavelengths of UVA rays also contribute to sunburn.
This radiation penetrates deep into the skin, and may lead to premature skin aging and cancer.
2. : They cause sunburn and play a key role in developing skin cancer.
This type of radiation is responsible for the color change in your skin after spending time outdoors.
3. : This type of radiation is completely absorbed by the earth’s atmosphere, and won’t reach your skin to cause damage.
This is one type of UV radiation that you don’t need to worry about.
The ultimate goal of sunscreen is to shield your skin against both UVA and UVB rays.
A sunscreen’s number refers mainly to the amount of #UVB protection it provides.
The grading system was established in Japan, and is meant to inform users of the level of protection from #UVA rays.
It’s important to look for the words “ ” on a product’s label, which means it has ingredients that can protect you from #UVA as well as #UVB rays.
