Q: Why am I getting pimples on my beard?

A: Strictly speaking, these are not pimples. They are bumps caused by infection in the beard hair follicles. They are called #folliculitis i.e. inflammation of the hair follicles due to bacterial (usual cause) infection.

Folliculitis can happen anywhere on the skin, not confine to the face only. The symptoms range from mild itchiness to pain.

Shaving, plucking and waxing, touching or rubbing your skin frequently, wearing tight clothing and hot tub may damage the hair follicles and cause folliculitis.

While some folliculitis may go away on their own, others may need antibiotics.
Recurrent, stubborn folliculitis on hairy area may need hair removal laser or IPL to make the area less hairy and clear from infection.
